Xiaomi success: 1 million smartphones sold in India within 18 days
Lately, CEO Lei Jun has written an open letter on Facebook to recognize India Xiaomi success. In just 18 days, 1 million smartphones have been sold in India, both in offline and online channel.
Xiaomi success: a 18-day miracle
Since 2014, Xiaomi has taken its first steps to penetrate into India’s smartphone market. They concentrate on manufacturing high-end specifications devices and position their products as budget phones. With this production strategy, the brand soon gains a foothold in the fierce battle. According to previous reports, the company sold 50,0000 devices between Oct 1 and Oct 3 during the country’s festive season. So, that’s an leverage for the company to reach the number of 1 million today.
In the open letter on Facebook, Mr.Lei expressed his gratitude for all Indian employees for their devotion and dedication to the Xiaomi success. He especially sent his thanks to Vice President of International Hugo Barra and Xiaomi’s India Head Manu Kumar Jain in leading the brand Mi in India. Besides that, the factor contributing to this victory is every Indian citizens, who love and believe in their smartphones.
Looking at Xiaomi’s last two years in India, the company gradually made its name into the top slots of smartphone manufacturers in India. RedMi Note 3, Mi 5, RedMi 3S Prime and Mi Max are the flagships that have been launched into India market and all reach an impressive sales.

Besides offline marketing campaign, Xiaomi also set partnership with online e-tailer giants like Flipkart, Snapdeal and Amazon to sell their products. They also hold flash sales which attract public’s attention and raise demand. Within 3 to 5 years, Mr.Lei has revealed that Xiaomi aimed to achieve the largest market share in India but has not disclosed any sales target in the country.
