Xiaomi has just launched its newest phone, the Mi Mix. It has received praise for its design, especially the screen. However, recently, the Mi Mix screen has been questioned about durability.
Xiaomi Mi Mix screen questioned: Easy to break?
Xiaomi has managed to captured the attention of everyone with the introduction of Mi Mix. It has the elegance of the ill-fated Note 7 from Samsung, but with a touch of its own. The screen-to-body ratio is 91%, the most ever seen in any phone. We can see clearly the ambition of Xiaomi when they decided introduce this phone: to fight for a position with the big brands. However, one design flaw can seriously set the company back by quite a lot.
Recently, some bloggers in China has reported that, when their phones are accidentally dropped, the screen cracked at the upper left corner. It was just a short fall, even without protective cases, so it should not do so much damage. There were also some reports, that even when wearing protective cases, the screen still cracked, and coincidentally, at the same place: upper left corner. Many people, including Wang Yonggang, who claims himself to be an engineer of Google, have suspected that this could be a design flaw from Xiaomi, causing the upper left corner to be easily cracked, even from short height falls.
Of course, Xiaomi has not claimed the Mi Mix screen to be shatterproof, and even for high-end smartphones, some degree of screen crack can be acceptable, even expected. However, with how easy it is to break at one position, one must wonder about the design of the phone. This could be a similar case to the Galaxy Note 7, as design flaws could cause problems for the phone, although for Xiaomi Mi Mix it is not as severe. These are for now just speculations, we still need to hear official words from Xiaomi.
Xiaomi Mi Mix screen: Vulnerable beauty?
For now, it is advised that owners of Xiaomi Mi Mix buy the screen insurance for 249 Yuan (about $36) per year. If the screen is already cracked, users can replace the screen for 1350 Yuan (about $195). It is surely not easy for Xiaomi to go toe-to-toe with other big brands!
