Mi 6 home button to use a cheap motor?
This year will be full of big flagship reveal. Samsung Galaxy S8 will be unveiled soon, and Xiaomi Mi 6 will also be launched this year. However, there may be one big problem with the Mi 6 home button!
Mi 6 home button to use a cheap motor?
Recently, among the Samsung Galaxy S8 hype, Xiaomi also got a lot of anticipation for its new Xiaomi Mi 6 this year. People have been eagerly waiting for the big reveal of the new Xiaomi flagship, along with its bigger-in-size sibling, the Mi 6 Plus. There have been many reports and speculations regarding Xiaomi Mi 6 specs, such as its camera set-up (supposedly dual), its processor (likely to be SND 835), etc.
However, recently there has been one new speculation with regards to a different piece of hardware. This time, it is quite negative, and may affect the performance of the phone if true. It is about the Mi 6 home button, which also serves as the fingerprint scanner. According to analyst Sun Changxu, the upcoming Xiaomi device will use an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner like its predecessor, Xiaomi Mi 5s. This small part is also put under the front glass, similar to that of the iPhone 7.
However, because of its position, the scanner also serves as the Mi 6 home button, but it does not press down. Instead, a linear monitor is used to provide vibration feedback, also same as iPhone 7. This is the worrisome part: according to another analyst, @Mocha RQ on Weibo, the iPhone 7 uses a linear motor priced $10, while that of the Mi 6 home button costs just under $1. This may lead to less vibration feedback and low reliability for the device.
Mi 6 home button rumor: It’s still too early to tell
That is indeed some worrisome piece of information. However, that was just speculation, and we need to wait for official words. Do you think using cheap linear motor for Xiaomi Mi 6 home button may cause problems for the device, and the brand as well?
