Why was the physical iPhone 7 Home button removed?
On the first glance, you won’t be able to see it, but the physical iPhone 7 Home button is no longer there. Curious why? Here are the reasons behind it.
The things that led to the physical iPhone 7 Home button removal
The iPhone 7 came with many surprises this year. Aside from the groundbreaking headset jack removal and the introduction of new wireless AirPods, the new iPhone got another big change: removal of the mechanic Home button. The old version of iPhone Home button got replaced by a static button that is force sensitive. The reasons behind the big change are: the big amount of users not actually using the mechanical button, and the future prospects of making the phone waterproof.
A lot of users didn’t use the physical Home button because they were concerned with the button’s durability. Many users believed that with time the Home key will loose its sensitivity and will break after being pressed many times a day. Even though the old Home buttons were very durable and could withstood years of use, Apple still decided to replace them with new static iPhone 7 Home button. It was done to battle the misconception about the Home key.
The technological change of iPhone 7 Home button, however, opened the door to other possible technological advancements. Since the new Home key is now digitized and the headset jack is removed, the new iPhone can now be water resistant and dust resistant. This factor and the prospects of being able to further improve the phones, are strong reasons for Apple to change.
New static Home button can lead to many improvements
Apple’s change in the structure of iPhone 7 Home button was a good step towards making the phone more dust and water resistant. In addition to that, there might be more technological improvements coming their way.
