New Vivo 3D face sensing is ten times more accurate than Apple!

At the MWC 2018 Shanghai event, Vivo has finally introduced new technology. In details, Vivo has been developing advanced facial recognition technology called Time of Flight (TOF). Additionally, the sensor detects the time it takes for the emitted light to bounce back from the subject back into the sensor. As a result, it can map the surface accurately at up to three meters. Moreover, we have unveiled a brand new 3D sensing technology that isn’t limited to the smartphone industry.

Besides, this technology also enables better gesture and motion tracking, 3D photography and AR. On another hand, with the aid of AI, Time of Flight also helps enhance the security capabilities even further. However, what’s interesting is that vivo now claims that the Vivo 3D face sensing technology to be simpler than the ones found in the Mi 8 Explorer Edition, iPhone X. The TOF sensors are smaller, operate more and are more flexible for incorporation than the Structure of Light-based 3D scanner.

On another hand, Vivo 3D face sensing boasts 300,000 sensor points, which is ten times the number Apple’s sensor. The setup also allows for more broader application than just facial recognition. Users can use it for AR, gestures and even motion tracking, 3D scanning. Moreover, it can also help recreate objects digitally, for education purposes and can even in the medical field. Lastly, Vivo stated that their technology has gone through some extensive testing and met industry’s standards. It means that it’s closer to being released with a commercial product.

When will Vivo 3D face sensing make its debut?

While the recently released Vivo NEX duo doesn’t feature this new technology, we can expect the next flagship of this Chinese brand to have it. Which device do you think is going to arrive with the Vivo 3D face sensing? Let us know with a comment!
