Upgraded Mediatek Helio P60 chipset is coming soon
Since AI feature started to be a big part of our lives, manufacturers have continuously pushed more and more AI-related technologies into their devices. Thus, chipset companies have to produce reliable hardware that can take the load well. And apparently, MediaTek is planning to do so by improving its current Helio P60 chip. A little recap, the original Helio P60 has had a pretty successful launch this year and has attracted many Chinese flagships like Oppo and Vivo.
MediaTek has also released the first mid-range 12nm chip based on TSMC’s manufacturing process, the Helio P22. According to a report, it has sold like a hot cake in China and India featured in plenty of handsets. But while the Helio P22 has AI support, the Helio P60 doesn’t. So it’s reasonable for the company to gear up with an AI-oriented update to the P60. Besides, our sources claim that the upgraded Mediatek Helio P60 will be out sometime in the second half of this year.
In the past years, MediaTek had manufactured chipsets for powering flagship smartphones. However, since it failed to land contracts with big clients, it has shifted its focus to making SoCs for affordable smartphones. According to TL. Lee, who is the company’s Head of communications product business wing, MediaTek is now focusing more on producing mid-range and high-end Helio P chipsets with AI capabilities.
