TGA Game of the Year award goes to Overwatch!
The Game Awards (TGA) 2016 was held a few days ago. There were many talking points, but the highlights of the event were, of course, the awards, especially the TGA Game of the Year!
TGA Game of the Year award goes to Overwatch!
At the TGA 2016, Hideo Kojima finally received his long-awaited but deserved rewards, and Telltale announced their Guardians of the Galaxy game. Those were special, but none can top the highlight of the event: the awards. There were many awards handed to deserving winners. However, one award was the main attraction: the TGA Game of the Year. This year, that honor goes to Overwatch! The Blizzard game had beaten out the likes of Doom, Inside, Titanfall 2, and Uncharted 4 to take the crown.
To be considered, games must have been released between November 24 last year and November 24 this year. When accepting the award, Blizzard’s Ray Gresko said that they are “very happy with how the game has been received”, and also “proud that this game and the world that we’re building has a message and it’s a message about heroism”. The game is about diversity, a bright future full of hope. The company believes that is what everyone needs a little bit of right now.
Apart from the TGA Game of the Year, Overwatch also won Best Multiplayer Game, Best Esports Game, and Best Game Direction. This year has been a massive success for Overwatch, and Blizzard as well. There were other notable awards and winners as well. Pokemon GO snatched two awards: Best Mobile and Handheld Game, and Best Family Game. Best Action-Adventure Game goes to Dishornored 2, while Best Action Game goes to Doom. Best Fighting Game and Best RPG are Street Fighter V and The Witcher 3 – Wild Hunt respectively. Civilization 6 is the Best Strategy Game, while the Most Anticipated Game is The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
TGA winners: All deserving of the titles!
Overall, this year’s TGA managed to delivered, and the winners were regarded as deserving. The event made full use of their promise on making the event more about depth. What do you think is the best game of 2016?
