600M Samsung smartphones vulnerable to keyboard hack
Latest news from WSJ and Nowsecure has reported that, more than 600 millions Samsung smartphones, most of which belong to the Galaxy series, can be affected by a serious security flaw in the re-installed keyboard. It is being said, if not fixed, the hackers can follow track to attack and take over the control of you phone’s GPS, camera, mircophone. They can even install harmful apps, control you private messages, phone calls or picture/video gallery without you knowing.
The security problem comes from Swiftkey Keyboard app when users download the pre-installed system-level app. (SwiftKey refers to such app as the “Samsung stock keyboard using the SwiftKey SDK”). If you are using the official version of SwiftKey downloaded from Playstore, then you don’t have to worry about this risk.
Earlier last year, in November 2014, NowSecure, a security agency based in Israel detected and warned Samsung as well as Google Android security team about the risk of keyboard hack. The Korean company asked NowSecure to give them 3 months to fix the keyboard hack before spreading the news to public so that it won’t make consumers worry. However, the update launched in March did not seem to work really well. Experts from NowSecure still found the problem when they bought the newest Galaxy S6 from Samsung last week.
Here are some of the things an attacker could do with your Samsung keyboard hack:
1. Access sensors and resources like GPS, camera and microphone
2. Secretly install malicious app(s) without the user knowing
3. Tamper with how other apps work or how the phone works
4. Eavesdrop on incoming/outgoing messages or voice calls
5. Attempt to access sensitive personal data like pictures and text messages
Samsung started providing a patch to mobile network operators in early 2015. However, it is still unknown how many devices are still potential from keyboard hack. Anyway, prevention is always better than cure. For users’ safety, NowSecure suggests the following tips to minimize the risk of keyboard hack for you Samsung smartphones:
* Avoid connecting to insecure Wi-fi networks (without password/public networks)
* Use a different mobile device while waiting for updates
* Contact carriers for patch information and timing
If you are using a Samsung smartphone from the Galaxy S4 and later, it is highly advised to be aware of the risk and keep yourself updated.
Microdia Xtra Elite: 512GB microSD card and more expensive than a Galaxy S6 Edge!
Many Smartphone fans are in love with devices that provide microSD card slots that allow them to expand internal storage. If you are one of them, you may be happy to know that Microdia, a company based in San Jose, California, USA had cramped unbelievably huge 512GB into a microSD card. Yes, exactly enormous 512GB capacity!
As Microdia revealed at Computex 2015, their newest product has a capacity of 512GB, making it the world’s biggest microSD up to now.
Obviously Microdia Xtra Elite isn’t targeted to everyday smartphone users, even if the card will work well in any device that supports the SDXC format. Instead, the Microdia Xtra Elite microSD card is aimed at professional photographers who need massive storage for photos and video.
The card features SDXC 4.0 UHS-II standard that promises data transfer rates of up to 300MBps, about three times faster than the previous SDXC 3.0 UHS-I version.
Microdia is setting up to bring the Xtra Elite on sale this July. Predictably, such a huge amount of space doesn’t come cheaply.
Priced at $1,000, the Microdia Xtra Elite is more expensive than a Galaxy S6 Edge, which is one of 2015’s beasts. This means the Microdia Xtra Elite price in Philippines at launch date will be no less than PHP 45,300. Oh WOW, it’s worth a fortune, isn’t it?
Fans around the world are looking for a smaller and more affordable version. We may also find a 64GB model that comes at around $15.
A microSD card that is even more expensive than a high-end smartphone may sound crazy to many people. However, Microdia Xtra Elite would be helpful for many others who seek extra storage for their devices.

Samsung Galaxy Note 5 designs
Design is a key part Samsung’s efforts to improve its smartphone offerings. Public feedback on the previous Galaxy Note 4 shows that people prefer a phone with metal framing instead of plastic rears.
However, much as Samsung want to meet consumers’ demand, when discussed about Galaxy Note 4 design, one of Samsung’s lead designers said via an official company blog post:
“The designers have been aware of people’s desire for a metal frame. However; a full metal body make the handset ‘too hard and cold’,” and that “The soft cover allows the user to change batteries, which is also a big part of the user experience of the Galaxy Note 4.”
From this, we can predict that, the hope for a fully metal handset may not become true with the Galaxy Note 5.

Samsung Galaxy S6 vs S6 Edge comparison: What makes them different?
In this article, we provide you an Galaxy S6 vs S6 Edge comparison with hands-on reviews about Samsung’s newest flagships. At the last MWC 2015, Samsung made a big hit when announcing their latest devices. They received bunches of positive reviews and had their Galaxy S6 Edge awarded “The best smart phone”. Ever since, the internet has been stirred up with curiosity why Samsung launched 2 devices with more or less the same tech specs but different designs and price tags at the same time.
More about Galaxy S6 vs S6 Edge price in PH previous article.
Samsung Galaxy S6 vs S6 Edge comparison
1. Both of the devices are super slim with metal rears.
2. Comparing Galaxy S6 vs S6 Edge, both of the devices feature the latest Gorilla Glass 4 backs that create their premium looks. However, we still need time to judge their durability span.
3. Except for the distinctive screens, other details are mostly similar. To make it clear, they both feature Samsung’s iconic physical home button, look exactly the same from the backs, and can both be unlocked by user’s fingerprint.
4. Both S6 camera and S6 Edge camera are very impressive (16.0 MP, OIS). But as Samsung tried to make the new devices super slim, the cameras of both devices are a bit protrusive. This makes the phones somehow unbalanced when put on the table. Some also fear that this will make the lens more sensitive to scratch.
However, since S6 Edge price in Philippines is considerably PHP 6,650 more expensive than S6 price in Philippines, the device clearly has some advancements over its counterpart.
Now let see what are the differences between Galaxy S6 vs S6 Edge.
1. Unlike the Galaxy S6 screen, S6 Edge has a curved display – a technology that represents Samsung’s pride since the Galaxy Note Edge.
The unique S6 Edge curved screen gives you a new way to quickly check and respond to calls, messages and mails. It also makes the device very impressive and outstanding from others, which you can’t buy from his brother S6 screen.
2. S6 Edge is slightly thicker (7 mm vs 6.8 mm), slightly lighter (132g vs 138g) and S6 Edge battery is slightly bigger than S6 battery (2600 mAh vs 2550 mAh).
3. While the front of the S6 Edge is beautifully curved, the rear is just flat, making it easier to slip off your hand. In addition, the rear of the back frame is quite sharp, so it may be a bit uncomfortable to hold for extended period; which you don’t find in Galaxy S6.
4. One more small detail, you can find a Galaxy S6 sim card slot on the rear, which S6 Edge doesn’t have.
Our conclusion of our Samsung Galaxy S6 vs S6 Edge comparison:
Considered a huge leap beyond Galaxy S5 and Note Edge, both of these two guys S6 and S6 Edge designs and technology won’t cease to surprise you. Making the choice, if you are addicted to recklessness and looking for unique distinctions, we are voting Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge. And if you prefer a classic and elegance, then you may fall for the Samsung Galaxy S6 over its sibling.
However, the decision remains yours. Share with us your experience and feeling now. Which one would you prefer between these two, Samsung fans? Galaxy S6 or S6 Edge ?
Samsung’s Galaxy S6 Edge launch event in China: Half of attendees were hired ?!
In the Samsung’s press conference a few days ago in China, there are about 1,000 attendees. But, according to The Paper, they said on a report that half of them were fake. The event was held to officially introduce the newest Galaxy S6 as well as S6 Edge to Chinese’s smartphone lovers – the targeted market of many brands and now the biggest market in the world.
Therefore, the source said that people, under 30 years old, dressing like like, students or SamsunGlaxy fans were paid $4.80 (PHP 2127) for at least an hour to stay at the conference. The recruiters were also paid $3.20 (PHP 141) for each person they recruited.
Those people, after that, had to report that they admired the company and they are really curious about the new device of the company or how much they love the company as well, etc. Some of them were required to take pictures, post to social media with the name of the phone, WeChat app for an example and also like the Samsung Galaxy fanpage. Another interesting thing, half of the pictures of the luxirious Samsung Galaxy S6 or S6 Edge were taken by the Apple iPhone. What do you think about it?
Samsung had been experienced not a good year in 2014, in case you dont know. The company was the largest company for many years but lost its share in global recently, especially in China, where Apple took over 27.6% market share. Therein, the Apple iPhone 6 itself took 10.2%. In China, the iPhone 6 is now the most popular device, followed by Xiaomi Redmi and iPhone 6 Plus. It seems that Samsung are trying to get fans back. They tried much on creating impressive, unique Samsung Galaxy S6 or S6 Edge with many upgrades, advancements and improvements. Besides, they also emphasized doing marketing in order to improve the Samsung brand.
So, what do you think about the action of Samsung. Do you think they’re right?
Samsung Galaxy Blade Edge: The First Smart Knife in the world?
Samsung Galaxy Blade Edge – the perfect combination between a smartphone and a knife.
Yesterday, on April Fool Day, in official Samsung website, Samsung was unveiled their first world’s smart knife with smartphone capabilities, namely the Galaxy BLADE edge. More interesting, the phone is exactly the “edge-display variant of the Galaxy S6”. Therefore the phone packs the same inside specs as the incredible Galaxy S6 and even running Android with Touchwiz, but a super sharp edge that potentially serve as a chef’s knife.
This is the perfect, modern option for many cookers, housewifes in the kitchen in future?
The question is “possible” thanks to “the razor-sharp diamond edge and special ceramic that’s tough enough to cut through a lobster tail and sharp enough to slice though tender heirloom tomatoes”. Sammy said that the “knife” can cut up to 50% faster than traditional knives.
Its device is really a smart knife, packed with many smart features such as the fingerprint scanner on the home button and the BLADE’s finger-detection mechanism will be activated in order to avoid you cut yourself. Besides, a human blood sensor is also available, blocking the product from being used in violent situations.
After published article in Samsung Tomorrow, many positive comments from readers praise interesting idea even when most people understand this is the joke of the day by Samsung.
What do you think of Samsung’s April Fools smart knife? I myself admit that the device is pretty awesome, even if such a product would be definitely “too good to be true”. But wait, we’re talking about Sammy – Korean giant smartphone manufacturer so hopefully Samsung will launch a similar product in the future. And no matter what, this is a beautiful “innovative idea” (even in April Food day).
