System Shock Remake is made for PC players first!
Just last week, Nightdive Studios has teased everyone with a new in-game PC footage of the coming System Shock Remake. The company stated that the game will run on Unreal Engine 4. However, some players have remarked that the game looked better with Unity engine, as in the pre-alpha demo last year. Recently, Jason Fader, the game director, has shared with us why Unreal was chosen, where the team’s priorities lie, and what do they mean by this being a “faithful reboot”.
About the visual aspect, Jason said that the remake’s appearance was still in development, and that the change in engine and the difference in visual are not related at all. What was in the demo last year was just a rough style the team was experimenting with, to push for crisper visual. He also said that art direction was a low priority, since the whole team wanted the technology used could handle what they want to create, hence the engine change. Now that they have the pipelines all set up, style and mood will be taken care of.
Also, Jason also stated that this game is made for PC gamers first and foremost. However, without hesitation, he also said that the game will indeed come to consoles, so that more players could appreciate the game, but PC will be the main target for the time being. As for the “faithful reboot” sentiment, he also shared that the team first planned a full straight 1:1 remake. However, there were many aspects that needed to be changed, as well as some intentional tweaks from the developers as well. Then, it is decided that it will be a reboot, but will maintain the spirit of Shock 1.
System Shock Remake: High anticipation
After the success of the original Shock, many players hope that this remake version can be on par with its predecessor. Are you looking forward to the game?
