Super Mario Run downloads: 2.85 million first day!

Recently, the long-awaited Super Mario Run game for mobile has been released. After the global released, the game has achieved some incredible numbers already: 2.85 million Super Mario Run downloads in its first day alone! This number is reported by Apptopia. Note that this number only includes iOS downloads, since this game will not be on Android until next year.

With 2.85 Super Mario Run downloads in the first day, the game has kind of “beaten” Pokemon Go records before, with 900,000 downloads in the same period (after three days, Pokemon Go reached 5.6 million downloads). However, this comparison is only relative, because Pokemon Go in its first day was only released in three countries. Only recently was Pokemon Go introduced to India and some remaining Asian markets. Meanwhile, Super Mario Run was released globally on launch.

However, this is still a first step success for Super Mario Run, the game which brings back a lot of nostalgia for many of us. This success is achieved not only because of long-time Mario fans, but also the efforts of Nintendo’s marketing, the media hype, and even Apple (if you realize, Apple Store app is now full of red color of the Mario game when you open the app). As for Nintendo, this game will be a huge stepping stone for the company in pushing the sale of its consoles as well as games, and a good preparation for the Nintendo Switch launch.
