Sony Xperia XZ2 duo features drop 3.5mm audio jack. Here is the reason!

Starting with Xperia XZ2 duo, the company has changed a lot of things on its flagship smartphone series. In details, the devices no longer look like a slab of metal or glass but flaunt a new Ambient Flow design. Meanwhile, these are the first Sony smartphones to feature 18:9 aspect ratio display. However, when these smartphones are going well, the brand ironically decided to ditch the 3.5 mm headphone.

Sony claims to be the dominant market trend toward wireless headphones over wired headphones. To be fair, the HTC U11 and U11+ don’t have headphones jack either while the “Ambient Flow” design takes more than a little inspiration from HTC. Besides, the Sony Xperia Xz2 is one of the thickest flagship smartphones in 2018. Since other manufacturers include slimmer bezels and the 3.5mm port, Sony could not blame on the thinnest vertical bezels or an extra-large battery.

Sony points out that you can still use wired headphones if you like – either USB-C headphones or through the in-box adapter. In some regions, the adapter is a Y-splitter, allowing you to listen and charge simultaneously And in some areas, you’ll get Sony MH750 headphones including a built-in 3.5mm audio jack. Both Xperia XZ2 and Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact receives Hi-Res Audio system (for wired headphones and conversing cables only).

Is Sony going the right way?

From our perspective, trends always exist for a reason. Apple’s decision to remove the headphone jack at first. Meanwhile, since Sony now can produce some wireless headphones, they are likely to push customers toward wireless-headphone devices.
