Every Indian will have a smartphone in the next five years!
Based on various reports, India has now become the second largest smartphone market worldwide. Within 2017, we have witnessed the rise of smartphone users, from flagship to mid-range and even low-end phone. As a result, Niti Aayog Chief Executive Amitabh Kant has announced this prediction about India’s future during a presentation. He claimed that in the next five years, every Indian is going to own their smartphone.
In details, Amitabh Kant has given a speech at the India Digital Summit (organised by the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI)). Furthermore, Kant stated that there is currently up to 400 million smartphones users in India. On the other hand, the change of mobile data also plays an integral part in effecting the consumer behaviour. He also shared that “India ranks first regarding most monthly Internet users in term of Facebook, Whatsapp, and Twitter”.
“Today, 85% of the devices are still unconnected. Therefore, there is a huge opportunity for the Internet of Things. The opportunity would be in the range of $70 billion by the end of 2025,” Kant said. Furthermore, India has ranked globally as the most active Internet users on a monthly basis. “The digital transaction will reach $100 trillion in the next ten years,” he declared during the summit. With 99% Aadhaar penetration and bank accounts opened under Jan Dhan Yojana, he said, the scope was enormous for the Fin-Tech industry. “As far as the start-up community goes, ‘Make in India’ initiative has brought in a paradigm change in the financial ecosystem.”
