Apple reduces the speed of iPhones as batteries aged!

In a report released this December, the debate about Apple reduces the iPhones speed becomes a hot topic again. Previously, many people have claimed that the batteries of the old iPhone can affect the handset performances significantly. In details, John Poole (founder of benchmarking firm Primate Labs) has collected the data from thousands of iPhones’ Geekbench test. He claims that the tests on iPhones 6s show different results with two iOS 10.2 and 10.2.1.

When iPhone 6s runs on 10.2, it is capable of working without any obstacles. However, there was a significant drawback when this handset moved up to iOS 10.2.1. Besides, Apple iPhone 7 shows a similar pattern in its performance. Under iOS 10.2, 10.2.1 and 11.1.2, iPhone appears to work perfectly. On the contrary, Apple iPhone 7’s capacity reduces when running on iOS 11.2. According to Reddit users, who reported the problem, the reason for the performance degrade is due to the old batteries.

Poole had stated: “The distribution of iPhone 6s scores for iOS 10.2.0 appears unimodal with a peak around the average score. However, the distribution of iPhone 6S scores for iOS 10.2.1 appears multimodal, with one big peak around the average and several smaller peaks around lower scores. Under iOS 11.2.0 the effect is even more pronounced.” Additionally, batteries inside smartphones can last 500 full charge and discharge times. This cycle usually runs up to two years. However, if the users charge the battery charge it in a short time, the battery might age poorly. This situation also happens when you charge your phones overnight without stopping.

Will Apple come up with a way to fix this error?

Since November, Apple has released a soft fix for the problem as part of iOS 10.2.1 on iPhone 6s. Furthermore, they also offer to replace the batteries in some iPhone 6s models. However, many fans are still waiting for a better way to solve this problem once and for all. What do you think about this situation? Drop a comment to let us know!
