Samsung starts mass producing 512GB ROM
Previously, most popular smartphones install around 32GB/64GB of internal storage. For some premium flagships of the year, owners can get the most of built-in storage coming at 128GB/256GB. However, Samsung is planning to upgrade their smartphones with massive 512GB ROM at least next year. As far as it concerns, the brand starts mass production of 512GB eUFS storage.
According to our sources, the new 512GB of storage remains the physical dimensions as the 256GB storage earlier. Meanwhile, the difference comes from expanded internal space inside the phone. In details, Samsung builds the ROM out of 64 layers for 512GB chips well as eight cores included, compared to the previous with only 48 layers. Besides, Samsung also uses this 64-layer chip not just on phone storage, but also their production of SSDs and memory cards.
For the performance, the new storage expects to increase the usage speed up to 860MB/s for reads and 255MB/s for writes. Besides, the new room supports the phone to takes only six hours to copy a 5GB file from it and just 20 seconds to copy to it. Moreover, users can own at least 21 hours of 4K videos with the new 512GB storage. On the other hand, performance for apps remains the same with 42000 IOPS for reads and 40000 IOPS for writes.
Will future Samsung handsets come with 512GB ROM?
We can expect that the upcoming flagship Samsung Galaxy S9 comes out with 512GB ROM built-in. If it is possible, Samsung can develop a whole new smartphones lines with 512GB ROM available.
