LG and Samsung: “we are not slowing down our old phones!”
Apple is now under fire after many reports claimed that they intentionally slow down the iPhone after each iOS updates. Not long after, the company released a statement to apologize for the incident. In details, they explain that by decreasing the speed, it would help protect the iPhone from ageing batteries issues. Additionally, Apple also claims that replacing batteries is the only solution. Meanwhile, Apple cuts the replacing battery price down to 63% (~ $29).
For now, Apple plans to keep on slowing down old iPhones to protect and maximise user experience. On the contrary, other brands have their own announcement. Based on the latest updates, Samsung and LG confirmed that they are not tinkering with the performance of older devices. LG clearly claims that they never did and never will do such things to customers. Meanwhile, Samsung clarifies that their battery always goes under safety measures, which does not affect performance as well as the battery life.
Previously, HTC and Motorola also claimed that they do not have such behaviours on their products. Notably, HTC representative confirms that this is “not something we do”. Meanwhile, Motorola stated: “We do not throttle CPU performance based on older batteries”. For now, this situation is highly critical and controversial. We expect other brands including Google and Sony to give their comments on the problem soon.
