According to a recent announcement, Samsung is still hesitating to launch their foldable smartphones and they intends to apply the technology only for tablets. So let’s see the reason behind that strategy.

Samsung foldable phones manufacturing concern

These days, a few pictures of the design of Galaxy X – a Samsung rollable screen smartphone – has been disclosed. In theory, this innovation allows the manufacturer to make big size screen but still mobile and handy by folding screen features. However, according to Korea Herald, Samsung is concerned about the potential to dominate the market of this type of device.

The first problem of this innovation starts from the connectivity and the relevance between the screen and other sensitive components such as battery or mainboard. It would be hard to make those parts of the phone foldable or small enough not to impede the folding step. On the other hand, one insider information leaked that Samsung completely have enough supply and the potential to produce folding screen phones in large numbers, but it remains as a question to Samsung if users are willing to spend a huge amount of money to own the phone.

If customers really expect to own such a product, Samsung will apply this technology to make the tablet first. The reason is that the external panels of the tablet will have a larger and wider radius of curvature, so the manufacturing process is also easier to design and there are fewer obstacles than when applying on the phone. Moreover, just last month, Kolon Industries has introduced its plan for the production of transparent and heat-resistant CPI plastic sheet. It is anticipated to completely replace the glass screen of smartphones and tablets today. Plastic Screen will be widely applied in 2018 and promises to be an integral part for future technological equipment.

It is obvious that after the failure of the Galaxy Note 7, Samsung has been extremely cautious of launching new devices, not only in terms of quality, but also because of mobile users’ trend.
