Samsung Galaxy S9 vs Galaxy S8: S9 got smaller screen-to-body ratio
According to the media, the screen to body ratio on the Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus is slightly smaller than their predecessors. In details, the screen-to-body ratio of Galaxy S9 is 85.3%, smaller than 86.2% of Galaxy S8. On the other hand, for the Plus variants, Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus is 86.2% screen-to-body ratio, still lower than that of Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus with 87.5%.
Currently, the trend in the smartphone industry is the increasing screen-to-body ratio. Since the display gets larger, the bezels should be lower to keep the smartphone comfortable to use and hold. Before 2017, the ratio of smartphones is around 70% to 75%. It is apparent that some of the devices such as Essential Phone and Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 with thinner bezels are becoming more popular.
Samsung has succeeded in differentiating themselves by “Infinity Display” with a high screen-to-body ratio. At the moment, there is no smartphone on the market offering 100% bezel-less display. We expect Samsung or Apple might make a revolution in the smartphone industry with their no-bezel devices. A short glimpse of the duo flagships from Samsung: Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus are going to come at the end of February and hit stores by the end of March of April.
