Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus camera: two different camera sensors!
Back in February, Samsung has stolen the show at the MWC 2018 event with the announcement of their Galaxy S9 flagships duo. Notably, Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus camera are the most highlight features of these handsets. Notably, Samsung has continued to dual sourcing the image sensors for their product. Furthermore, the photography system changes depending on your location.
Moreover, there are two options: a Sony-designed IMX345 or a Samsung-designed S5K2L3 ISOCELL Fast. Moreover, TechInsights has done a thorough examination of both sensors at a microscopic level. The result? There is a difference in term of the design of the lens for Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus camera. Firstly, both camera lenses have a 3-layer stacked design. The setup includes a CMOS sensor with image pixels.
Furthermore, there is another sensor for the image signal processor (ISP) and finally a DRAM chip. Lastly, there is a DRAM chip for those coveted 960fps videos recording. However, the organisation of these two lenses is different. Between the two, the Sony’s IMX345 is quite similar to the IMX400 introduced with the Xperia XZs. The sensor puts the DRAM in between the CMOS sensor and the ISP logic. On the other hand, the Samsung S5K2L3 locates like a traditional 2-layer sensor. Moreover, it used to have a CMOS bonded to an ISP, but now as a DRAM chip connected to the bottom. Notably, an LPDDR4 chip measuring is 3.17 x 5.33 mm (16.9 mm²). You can read more about them HERE!
