Samsung foldable smartphone to launch in 2018
Samsung foldable smartphone is real, but we probably will not see it at the end of 2017 like many rumors said earlier. A new report indicates the device will be put up for production at the end of this year, which means it may be available in 2018.
Samsung foldable smartphone: When will we see it?
Samsung is expected to showcase its foldable smartphone at MWC 2017 to limited audiences. Early rumors indicated the phone will be launched in Q4 2017. But a new report has appeared and stated that Samsung foldable smartphone will be put up for a trial production at the end of this year, with mass production follows in Q2 2018. So it’s highly likely we will see it around mid-year 2018.
As proof of Samsung foldable smartphone existence, the Korean company has already patented designs for the device. A recent patent revealed that Samsung is working on a new form of device that can be “folded or unfolded semi automatically”. According to internal source, the device code name is Galaxy X and it will be the future of Samsung’s mobile lineup.
Samsung is the biggest manufacturer of OLED displays and making foldable display has been the company dream for a long time. However, due to limitation in current technology, mass production of such display could not be made before 2018.

Well, it appears that not only Samsung is working on a foldable device. LG and other major manufacturers have already joined the trend too. There are many reports indicating that LG has partnered with Apple and Microsoft to develop foldable panels. While the day such device is still a little far away, we can be sure that this will become the new trend in the smartphone industry. It will be a tough and exciting race for all smartphone makers.
