Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Fusion Platform includes 5G Modem

Until today, we haven’t many details about the upcoming Qualcomm’s chipset. From our previous updates weeks ago, the newest SoC goes under manufacture on a 7nm process. That would help the new chipset to be more power efficient than the 10nm in the Snapdragon 845. Fortunately, some evidence was found about the Snapdragon 855 thanks to a Softbank Japan earning presentation.

First of all, the presentation confirms that the 845 successors will indeed be Snapdragon 855. Besides, the chipset gets the codename as SDM855 and the official brand name as Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855 Fusion Platform. Also, Snapdragon 855 features the recent unveiled SDX50 5G Modem (Qualcomm’s first 5G modem). Meanwhile, “Fusion Platform” reveals a possible integration of smart AI features, compared to “Mobile Platform” previously.

Currently, Kirin 970 debut packing Smart AI features and Apple most recent processor also was called “Fusion” A10 SoC. It seems that we will have AI battles between mobile processor from this year on. However, there is info regarding the Snapdragon 855 chipset with the codename as Hana v1.0. Hopefully, this SoC delivers 30% – 40% improved performance and an integrated 5G capable modem, SDX50. Besides, the chipset also enables low power and energy efficient, alongside the ultrasonic fingerprint scanner.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 – what else to expect?

Up to the moment, we have many months before the official release of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855. Thus, we expect more details and specifications to appear in the coming months.
