Qualcomm Snapdragon 850 to give speed, battery boost on ARM devices!
The video teaser for Qualcomm Snapdragon 850 is here, and it reveals what kind of enhanced features you will get. Keep reading to find out!
Qualcomm Snapdragon 850 features
Not long ago, Qualcomm has just unveiled the Snapdragon 710, the first entry in its 700 mobile platform series. Then, a few days later, we got a report that upcoming ARM devices would take power from Windows 10 and a mysterious yet powerful processor. This chip is essentially a beefed-up version of the Snapdragon 845 found in phones and comes to replace the 835 chip previously used in Windows-on-ARM devices. Thus, making us think this could be the new Snapdragon 850 processor. And today, Qualcomm released some pictures and a video teaser of the alleged powerful chipset.
Compared to the Snapdragon 835 laptops, the new chip promises a 30% boost in performance and 20% better battery life. The upcoming devices should have “multi-day” battery life since the chip will support 1.2 gigabits per second LTE connectivity speeds and up to 25 hours of continuous usage. Besides, the X20 LTE modem pushes the downlink speeds up to 1.2 Gbps. Nevertheless, the new chip has the same Kryo 385 cores as the Snapdragon 845, an Adreno 630 GPU, 10nm manufacturing process; and the company’s so-called AI Engine for on-device machine learning.
Unfortunately, it is well noted that the Snapdragon 850 will not be used in smartphones, but rather in ARM devices. According to Qualcomm, Windows devices powered by the chip will be available later this year. While we know that Samsung will make a PC using the Snapdragon 850, rumours brought out that both Microsoft and Dell have plans to release foldable smartphone/laptop hybrids powered by the chip as well. In addition, new operating system Windows 10 on ARM devices from HP, Lenovo, and ASUS will all be coming in later 2018.
