Qualcomm Snapdragon 8150 hit Geekbench

After the announcement of the Snapdragon 845 chipset, many smartphone fans have been waiting for the launch of the next chipset from this US brand. Yesterday, the world first foldable phone name FlexPai had made its debut in the market with a brand new processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon 8150! So far, we have seen little of this chipset. However, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8150 finally hits Geekbench today, showing off its performance record.

Notably, the benchmark seems to come from a reference device rather than the FlexPai. Firstly, the 8150 chip should be based on a new generation Kryo cores. While Qualcomm is mum on the setup, rumour has it that it’s a 2+2+4 instead of the usual 4+4. Additionally, the Kirin 980, a competing 7nm chipset that’s already on the market, has a similar three-tier design. It divides the responsibilities into two cores for burst performance, two for sustained speed and four little cores to handle the lighter tasks.

According to the benchmark, the chipset seems to have a greatly incremental improvement over the predecessor, the Snapdragon 845. Nonetheless, they don’t leapfrog Huawei’s score and certainly don’t topple Apple. Besides, the single core performance of the A12 is out of reach. On another hand, these are early results, and we don’t even know if the chipset was running at the final clock speeds. Furthermore, the best part of a Snapdragon chipset has always been the Adreno GPU, but we’ll need scores from a different benchmark to see how that does.

Which handset will equip the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8150 next?

So far, the foldable FlexPai seems to be the only device to make use of this new processor. However, we can expect more handsets from HMD Global (Nokia), Xiaomi or even Huawei to pick up the trend soon. Which device do you want to see this chipset in? Drop a comment to let us know!
