Previously, Blizzard has announced that there will be a remastered version of the original Starcraft. It will be a while before that happens. However, along with the 1.18 patch, the original game and its expansion Brood War has become free!
Original Starcraft and its expansion are now free!
Just a few weeks ago, Blizzard gave notice to the remastered version of one of the most beloved games of all time, Starcraft. Named Starcraft: Remastered, this will be a redesigned version of the original game and its very popular expansion, Brood War. Along with that piece of news, we also knew that the original version of the game, as well as the expansion, will be made free some time in April. Now, the game is officially available for free, with the release of Patch 1.18.
The patch was dropped late on Tuesday, with some new features. Now, you can play the original game in a borderless windowed mode. There were some tweaks with the back-end codes, some bugs were fixed, and the game is now compatible with Windows 10 as well. More importantly, you now can get the game for absolutely no cost, whether or not you have purchased the original game, or if you have lost your installation CD from years ago. You can get the game here by downloading the corresponding version, and then install according to the guide.
One of the most wanted features is the custom hotkey, however that one did not make it on this update. We don’t know if that feature is reserved for the remastered version, or another patch will come before then. Nevertheless, the game remains largely the same as it has been for the last 19 years. If you don’t want to wait until summer for the remastered version, go grab this game for free, and relive all those good old times of the original Starcraft!
Original Starcraft now free: Opening up for the Remaster
This is certainly great news for fans of RTS games, and also fans of the franchise. Now, go grab the game free of charge, and kill some time with it until the remastered version comes!
