In case you do not know, Japan often gets cool tech gadgets first, but not this time. Also, the country just got the first phone with an in-display fingerprint reader, OPPO R17 Neo, though getting late to the party. In details, the handset is a version of the Oppo K1 and R15X, and are based on the Oppo R17. Moreover, OPPO R17 Neo specs include a 6.4” AMOLED display with a teardrop notch and 1080 x 2340 pixels.
Interestingly, the OPPO handset houses the fingerprint reader on the back with two new gradient colours. Under the hood, the R17 Neo has a Snapdragon 660 chipset (down from S670) with 4GB of RAM (down from 6-8GB) and the storage remains at 128GB, alongside memory expansion to 256GB. Whereas, OPPO R17 Neo camera includes a dual 16MP rear sensor with a depth sensor of 2MP (down from 5MP).
Otherwise, the selfie camera remains a 25MP shooter on the front. As we learned, the Neo edition is much lighter than the vanilla R17 – 156g and 182g respectively. Moreover, keeping the light of the device is a slightly larger battery of 3,600mAh capacity. On the other hand, the OPPO flagship works on ColorOS 5.2 UI on Android 8.1 Oreo software platform out-of-the-box. Whereas, the handset sports an on-screen fingerprint reader and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Also, the company is ready for an exciting update called the HyperBoost Acceleration Engine similar to Huawei’s GPU Turbo.
