OPPO foldable phone
As you may know, Samsung is not the only one who is planning to delve into the fold-able space. In fact, we have ZTE, Motorola, Huawei and seemingly Apple with their patents reported, and new member OPPO. Currently, OPPO is pioneering the motorised camera revolution, and they had filed patents for fold-able smartphone designs. In general, the patents were filed with WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organisation) on 22nd March 2018.
Whereas, the patents come under the names ‘Rotation Mechanism and Foldable Mobile Terminal’ and ‘Hinge assembly, the rotation mechanism and foldable mobile terminal’. Besides, the patents were published back on April 6, 2018. According to our sources, both patents deal with fold-able designs but have different approaches. In details, one of the approaches makes the use of a single large flexible display with a rotating mechanism (a tablet design).
Meanwhile, another patent published on 22nd February 2018 use three displays folded back into one screen with a swivel hinge. Besides, magnets are used to keep the three screens together when folded. Also, the 1st part of the display houses all the major components including the camera while the 3rd part houses the microphone and speaker. Notably, there is one more patent that deals with the reminiscent of the flip phones of yore. However, the problem of this design is that frequent opening and closing would lead to wear and tear of the display. As a result, Oppo has designed a structure that has airbags to solve the issue.
