Just like last year, Oppo showed up at MWC with a new camera technology instead of a new phone like everyone else. This year, it’s the world’s first 5x zoom dual camera.
The world’s first 5x zoom dual camera
Oppo is here at the MWC 2017 right now. But instead of announcing a new smartphone like everyone else is doing, they opt for showcasing a new camera technology. The technology in question is a 5x zoom dual camera system, which utilizes a unique periscope-style setup. The camera consists of over 50 individual parts stacked in a module. According to Oppo, the camera uses a periscope-style setup to divert light through a prism and into a telephoto lens nested inside the smartphone, set at a 90-degree angle to the rear-facing wide-angle lens.
By shifting the light’s path, Oppo is able to achieve a lossless 5x zoom even within the confines of a thin smartphone. This technology will bring photography on mobile to a different level. With this setup, the camera on Oppo’s phones will produce much higher quality images than before. If you’ve used any smartphones from Oppo, you sure know that these devices are highly praised for there cameras.
As a reminder, Oppo tell everyone that the company has introduced many camera innovations back in the years. Oppo Ulike 2 is their first phone to feature a 5MP front camera, while Oppo N1 is the first phone with a 206-degree rotating. And most recently, the Oppo F1 Plus which sports a 16 MP front camera, another first in the world of mobile technology.
