Obstacles for Nokia return: Quality Suspicion and Market Share
Although the return of the legendary Nokia will bring us the excitement, the current market has changed a lot. Will the former King get back their crown while facing these following obstacles for Nokia return?
Obstacles for Nokia return: Quality suspicion
Nokia has officially confirmed that they will return the smartphone market in 2017. This news brings joy to both smartphone users and the technology world. On the one hand, Nokia is a legend that has been convinced by history. On the other hand, another brand stepping into the market means the harsher the competition is. Smartphone users will get benefit from this race when all manufacturers have to enhance their product quality. But it would be a bumpy road for Nokia.
Referring to Nokia’s “myth”, they used to dominate the market with 41 million units sold each year, profits increased by 75% per year at the end of the 20th century. But these are the early days of the mobile world. Less than a decade later, the user has witnessed the fall of Nokia smartphone brands, from high-end Lumia line to the “loser child” Nokia X. Nokia seems to realize the downside of Window OS that they move to the Android for return. However, their experience in Android is almost equal to Zero.
Time has changed the world, Nokia’s reputation is based on high standards, the rebellion in the superficial design such as N-Gage or the “lipstick” 7280. Though, these prestigious product seem “irrelevant” in the current mobile village. They are all expect Nokia phones with powerful specs, duarable with a reasonable price. But 3 recently leaked devices (Nokia Pixel, Nokia Ara and Nokia C2-00 PureView) are just low-end phones. Nokia D1C seems to have the highest specs which are far too low compared to that of most Chinese’s phones now.
Obstacles for Nokia return: Market Share
In other words, the story of Nokia is similar to BlackBerry, both have the characteristic design, a specific operating system, then move to Android without outstanding design or configuration then lose all the market into other brands’ hand. Will Nokia be drowned among hundreds of other devices. Smartphone market almost doesn’t grow from Q2/2015 till now at just 0.3% during last year. Apple and Samsung are controlling the high-end segment while Chinese companies are ruling the mid-range and low-end line. Where is the piece of cake for Nokia?
