Nokia deal official: Withings now belongs to the giant
Nokia deal with Withings this year is gonna bring a brand new chapter for the Finnish company. Nokia has officially acquired Withings with 170 million euros. So is it another step of Nokia in the way back to smartphone market?
Nokia deal: Withings officially belongs to Nokia
Nokia used to be the most popular name when we talked about phones. This brand dominated in the phone market for more than 14 years. In 2014, the company decided to sell the whole phone business to Microsoft because it couldn’t compete with its rivals. Since then, the Finnish company has found the other business field to focus on like the health business. Last month, Nokia was said to buy a company in this business – the Withings company. And now, it finally comes true.
Withings – a French health tracker start-up – is officially belongs to Nokia. It costs the our legend approximate 170 million euros in this Nokia deal. The deal was done earlier than they had expected. Withings will be the platform for Nokia’s new Digital Health business unit. This business will base on the previous works of the health start-up from France. Its products are gonna include activity trackers, blood pressure monitors, home and baby monitors, smart scales, etc.
In addition to this acquisition, Nokia also makes a step into virtual reality zone with its Ozo 360 camera. These moves could be the preparation for Nokia to come back in the smartphone market where it used to be a king. In the last few months, we’ve heard a lot about the comeback of Nokia in 2016. Together with those rumors is some of its smartphones. Nokia A1, C1 or Nokia N73 are some examples.

The combination with Withings is definitely bringing a fresh and exciting chapter for Nokia. And we won’t have to wait long to see the result of this combination. On 9th June, Nokia will host an event to present its new health products in San Francisco. And at the same time, its new San Francisco office will also be opened.
