One of the most important features of Android 8.0 (Oreo) is “Project Treble.” After receiving the latest update of Android 8.0, Nokia 8 flagship still do not receive Project Treble. What is the reason for this issue? Read our full article for more information!
Current Nokia phones will not support Project Treble
OS update is always a big issue since most of the manufacturers do not support their phones with the latest OS versions. Google has introduced “Project Treble” to help manufacturers update their device to a new version of Android more easily, quickly and less costly. Treble is used in all new devices launching with Android 8.0 and beyond. Additionally, it is much easier to develop a single system image that works across vastly different devices, as long as they are Treble-compatible.
Because Nokia 8 is launched with Android 7.1.1 Nougat, not Android 8.0, this phone can not support Project Treble. For users, this does not affect much as we still get the updates with or without Treble. HMD might have to put more effort to deliver new Android’s version of Nokia Android devices which came with Android Nougat. Let’s hope that upcoming Nokia 9 coming with Android Oreo will support Project Treble. Similarly, none current smartphones of OnePlus will get Treble in the Oreo update.
If you are curious about what phones support Project Treble, here we come with the updating list. From Google, Google Pixel 1 and Google Pixel 1 XL has received the Treble support. Besides Google, Huawei also catches up with the trend. Two devices from Huawei comes with Treble, namely Huawei Mate 9, Huawei Honor 8 Pro.
Which upcoming phone will get Project Treble support?
We expect that the next beast from Nokia: Nokia 9 might get this feature. Moreover, OnePlus six might also follow the trend. If you are hesitating to buy a phone without Treble, you can wait a couple of months. However, we think that this Treble feature will not affect your phone much.
