Nokia gets ready for 5G deployment in India by 2020!

This 2018, Nokia started to focus more on their telecommunications infrastructure and IT business. This business also includes the implementation of 5G and the IoT. Based on the latest account, HMD Global has shared that their Indian telecom operators are going to begin field trials or fifth-generation of 5G technology in India soon. Previously, they already kick-started their 5G lab trials; which will also pick pace this year as telcos look to prepare themselves for the upcoming technology.

Amit Marwah, head of customer marketing and communication at Nokia stated: “We are now taking the discussion forward in the form of some POCs (proof of concepts) or trials. We are hopeful that within 2018 you will see something coming on the ground very soon, which could be initially lab trials followed by field POCs within this year itself,”. Moreover, Harri Holma, Nokia’s Fellow for Technology & Innovation Research also shared that mobile data in India is roughly 80 petabytes per day, which makes India number one in the world.

“As a result, India, in this case, is number one in the world in terms of mobile, which means that data actually makes a need here for 5G technology, because there is point of the solution, which can provide more capacity,” he said, adding that availability of the right spectrum is somewhat critical for the success of 5G deployment in India. On the other hand, the Indian government has set a rollout target for consumers by 2020. They have already committed budgetary support for a 5G technology test bed that will be anchored at the Indian Institute of Technology in Chennai.
