Nintendo to stop producing Wii U?
With the introduction of the new device Nintendo Switch, it is plausible to question the other devices already on Nintendo’s roster. Recently, there have been multiple reports saying that Nintendo will stop producing the Wii U.
Nintendo to stop producing Wii U?
The Wii U has been Nintendo’s effort to compete with Sony’s Playstation 3 and Microsoft’s Xbox One. However, it did not as planned for the company. PS3 and Xbox One totally blew it out of the water. With that fact, it is not surprising if one day Nintendo decides to stop trying with the unfortunate device. That time seems to be coming soon, as multiple reports have stated that Wii U production will be stopped by Nintendo in the near future.
These reports have not been confirmed by Nintendo. However, considering that recently the company has just announced the new Nintendo Switch, and created a lot of hype for its release, it is not surprising that one of the previous devices of Nintendo may have to be axed. In this case, it is not surprising if the ill-fated Wii U s chosen to be the one that got shafted.
The Wii U was launched back in November 2012. It carried the hope to compete with Sony and Microsoft, but have failed to do so in every way. As of 30 September, Nintendo has shipped a total of 13.36 million of the said devices. If Nintendo are to stop production soon, the total number will just likely be a bit higher. The previous consoles from Nintendo has done way better. The GameCube managed to sell 21 million devices, N64 32 million, and its predecessor, the Wii, sold 101 million devices. It is totally understandable if Wii U will be discontinued.
Wii U discontinued, Switch will take over!
For now, all the hype is going to the new Nintendo Switch. Nintendo for now will not reveal more details until the planned event in January. Hopefully, Switch will do much better than its predecessor!
