The Nintendo Switch has been launched officially in March, and has been doing really well sales wise. It is also no surprise that the Zelda game for it is also doing well. However, the number of Zelda copies sold may surprise you!
Nintendo sold more Zelda copies than Switch devices!
Only few were surprised by the success of Zelda, as well as the Nintendo Switch. Now, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is the best selling game on the Switch, and the device itself holds the strongest opening ever for the Japanese company. However, some interesting situations have happened with the game and the console: there are more Zelda copies sold than the number of Switch purchased! This has happened in the USA. Nintendo has announced that 906,000 Switch console has been purchased, along with 925,000 copies of the new Zelda game.
In addition to that, the Wii U version of the game also managed to reach 460,000 units in sale, making for total sale of more than 1.3 million units. Breath of the Wild is now the fastest selling Nintendo title of all time, the also the fastest selling game in the Legend of Zelda franchise. Nintendo explained that the attach rate of 100% might be the reason that people bought a limited edition to collect, and a regular edition just to play. It is also possible that people actually bought the game first, before they can actually buy the console.
In a recent statement, Nintendo has shared that the company is doing everything it can to ensure that everyone can get a Switch if they want, addressing the problem of supply. More devices are being shipped as of now. In a few weeks, Nintendo will release its earnings, which will give us a better indication of how well the Switch has performed for the company. Upon launch, 2 million units have been shipped, with increase in production due to supply shortage, it is expected that about 16 million units will be shipped this year!
Zelda copies doing well: Good for the game and the Switch!
With those encouraging numbers, we can say that both the game and the device is doing pretty well right now. The number of Zelda copies is expected to increase with the increase in production of Switch consoles. Do you plan to buy a Switch, and the game as well?
