Nintendo also joins in the meme ride on the internet!
Memes are indispensible to the world of Internet. Although they tend to be the come-and-go type, there are always hot memes. Big companies can make use of the trend, for marketing purpose or something else. Recently, Nintendo has jumped on the meme train as well!
Nintendo also joins in the meme ride on the internet!
For a while, the “Roll Safe” meme has made its mark on the Internet. Since January, the images of someone pointing to their head with a knowing grin, accompanied by logically sound but absurd advices have been the new joke of the cyber world. Just last week, Nintendo added to to the trend with a tweet, where the company took the joke to a new absurdity level with its trademark dad humor. The Roll Safe joke has just hit another critical mass!
The meme started from actor Kayode Ewumi while he performed for a BBC Three web series named Hood Documentary. Not long afterwards, gifs and images of him pointing to his head and glancing sideways to the camera started surfacing. Then, in January, the meme exploded, started from Black Twitter, as people use it to give advice about lifehacks, but with fatal flaws. There are hundreds of them, ranging from comically bad to tragically comic.

Game have also joined in the ride as well, like Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, Overwatch, Starcraft, and even the new Nintendo game Fire Emblem: Heroes. But Nintendo elevated it further, to a new level of family-friendly. It did not take long for the Internet to join in with Nintendo, churning out Roll Safe memes about Nintendo as well. Take a look at this, this and this.
Nintendo meme: It is fun for a little while
It is nice to see companies such as Nintendo jump in on the meme ride like this, since it is a good way to interact with the players. Hopefully there will be more chance for them to do this in the future.
