Today, Microsoft has come up to share their update on the situation. In details, they are going to release the fix for Meltdown and Spectre Issue soon. However, there is a significant drawback. Microsoft solution might cause decrease your processor’s performances, especially on the pre-2016 Intel core. According to Microsoft, they have to rewrite the CPU instruction to prevent attackers from controlling your PC.
On the other hand, Intel has also addressed about the Meltdown and Spectre issue at this year CES event. Until now, Intel hasn’t yet to receive any report about security breach due to this threat. For now, everything is still under their control. However, Intel’s CEO Brian Krzanich has stated that it will be releasing updates to this situation. Furthermore, the fix will cover your processors and products that Intel has introduced for the past five years. For the rest, Intel fix will likely arrive by the end of January 2018. On the other hand, the performance impact of these repairs depends highly on the type of workload that users run. Some might be higher than others, but Intel has pledged that it will work together with the whole industry to continuously minimise the impact on the affected workloads over time.
