It seems like MediaTek has big plans for this 2018. Today, the Taiwanese fabless semiconductor company has revealed their latest chipset – Helio P22. In details, the processor is the first mid-range chipset to be built on a 12nm process, specifically TSMC’s FinFET. Additionally, MediaTek Helio P22 arrives with an octa-core CPU with Cortex-A53 cores clocked at up to 2 GHz. So, which features do the new chipset support?

Firstly, the Helio P22 can assist any mid-range smartphone dual camera system up to 13MP + 8MP. On the other hand; they also support 30fps video recording. The MediaTek Helio P22 is said to have low-power, “highly capable hardware depth engine for real-time Bokeh preview.” Furthermore, the chipset enhances your devices’ screen. The Helio P22 can support the display with resolutions up to 1,600x720p, with a maximum aspect ratio of 20:9.

Additionally, the MediaTek processor comes with dual-SIM functionality, with LTE connectivity on both. There’s also 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, and GLONASS. As we may know, AI is now a needed feature for any SoC. As a result, MediaTek cannot miss out on adding this great details to their new chipset. MediaTek P22 now “offers the benefits of AI-accelerated experiences,” MediaTek reported. Notably, MediaTek achieved the functionality through support for common AI frameworks such as TensorFlow, TF Lite, Caffe with Caffe2. Besides, there is also “an auto-select function for the best available AI resource for developer efficiency.” Furthermore, users can also receive the AI accelerated camera experiences including Face ID. Finally, the MediaTek Helio P22 comes with “smart photo album,” and single-camera as well as the dual-camera depth of field features.
