A new Light foldable phone to arrive with 7.5″ display, multi-lens camera!
Rumour has it that a new Light foldable phone with a multi-lens camera is coming to you soon. Foldable and multi-lens setup? Talking about hitting two birds with one stone. Keep reading for more details!
Light foldable phone with multi-lens setup
It’s not uncommon for smartphones to have a pair of cameras on their backs, in a number of different setups. A couple of years ago, a smartphone manufacturer called Light launched its L16 camera, a “multi-aperture computational camera” that features 16 lenses. Ten or more of them capture an image simultaneously but at different focal lengths. Then the camera combines those separate images into a single 52MP photo.
Now, picture this: You pull your phone out of your pocket and unfold it like a napkin into a tablet. Press your finger on the screen, and it unlocks. Switch to the camera app, and a spider-like array of lenses shoot simultaneously to capture one giant photo. You may think that there is no way such device exists. But apparently, Light is working on it. According to our source, the company already has a working prototype with a system consists of 5-9 lenses that function together.
Thus, it delivers DSLR-like performance in low-light conditions and captures whopping 64MP shots. In addition, Light promises sophisticated depth effects and unmatched zoom capabilities, unrivalled in the smartphone market. However, working prototypes are one thing. Producing millions of screens that can reliably fold and unfold is much tougher than it sounds. Anything with hinges behind the screen could be easier to break than our current smartphones. On the bright side, moving to plastic could make phones and tablets more shatter-resistant, even if they might be easier to scratch.
Light multi-lens phone availability
Light says its foldable and multi-lens phone will be announced later this year. Also, it will be interesting to see how those lenses affect the cost since the previous model L16 is already around $1,950 mark. Stay tuned with us for further updates about this impressive device!
