Li-fi: new technology that is 100 times faster than the Wi-fi you know
Li-Fi is the brand new wireless technology scientists are testing right now, reported to be able to transmit data as fast as 1GB per second. If you are not impressed, this is “just” about 100 times faster than the standard Wi-Fi speeds we are using!
Li-Fi: super fast wireless technology for the near future
Wi-Fi is doing a great job in transferring our data. But who knows, in the past few years, maybe we won’t remember it anymore. Recently, a company called Velmenni told the iBTimes UK that they are taking this innovative technology out of the labs and bringing it into real-world offices as well as industrial areas in Estonia, where it is most ideal to reach the speed of 1GB per second. With this speed, you can download a whole HD movie in just a blink of an eye!
What makes Li-Fi so fast in transferring speed? The answer is that, Li-Fi is working on VLC technology (visible light communication). The technology was actually invented in 2011 by Herald Haas. He found it after being able to transfer significant amounts of data from simply flickering a single LED flash, if compared to what a cellular tower could transmit. To make it more convincing, ScienceAlert has succeeded in downloading 18 movies of 1.5GB every second.
Li-Fi: reserving your zone
One thing I would like to notice about the Li-Fi technology is that, unlike Wi-Fi signals which could go through walls, Li-Fi is actually light by nature, and can not do the same. This means the range of Li-Fi is more limited. But to be optimistic, this will save you from stranger trying to sneak into your network from outside! Privacy guaranteed yay!
