LG is planning to launch a smartphone with SIXTEEN cameras!
Up until a year ago, smartphone fans were getting surprised about a dual cameras system. In 2018, many companies step it up a notch and increase this number from three (Huawei P20 Pro/Mate20 Pro) to four (Samsung Galaxy A9) and even five (Nokia 9 PureView). So, what is the limit number of camera lenses we should have on a phone? LG might give us their answer on that. According to the latest reports, LG has received a patent for a smartphone with a total of sixteen cameras!
In details, the Korean brand gained the patent from the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) earlier this week. Based on the image, it shows a smartphone with the main camera setup that consists of 16 lenses with different focal lengths and characteristics. With a single tap, all 16 cameras can take a shot at the same time and you’ll be able to pick your favorite after the fact. They can also support taking the wide-angle shot of a beautiful landscape or longer focal length.
Moreover, LG’s new patent also mentions stitching various parts of different images together. There are also other sorts of manipulations that users could be able to do after taking a picture. On the other hand, we spot a couple of examples in the patent on how a mirror can be used on the back of the phone to help with taking pictures of yourself. In the meantime, LG finally filed a few names for the trademark with the EUIPO (European Union Intellectual Property Office). They applied for three names: Flex, Foldi, and Duplex. The filing was made for class 9 products, which is an umbrella category that includes smartphones. As a result, we can also expect the upcoming arrival of LG foldable phone soon!
Can the sixteen camera LG phone become a reality?
For now, LG is still working on the development of this special handset. We might need to wait until the end of next year to finally meet this beast. As for the cost, we can expect a price tag of more than $1000. What do you think about this LG phone? Drop a comment to let us know!
