So far, 2019 is lining up to be the year of the foldable smartphone with major launches from big brand names like Samsung, Huawei, and even Motorola may be developing its own device too. According to a recently granted patent, it appears that LG could be one of the major brands to join the foldable smartphone market. LG patent showcases a regular smartphone that can fold in half.
And to do this, the South Korean company has opted for a new hinge mechanism that allows the display to fold at certain angles. Additionally, this should help avoid any damage to the touchscreen. Also, in an attempt of stopping the device from unfolding on its own, there are two magnets on the bezels of the screen to hold it in place. In regards to how the smartphone will work, it seems that this upcoming LG 2019 foldable smartphone resembles closely to a flip phone.
For instance, its display automatically switches on and, when folded shut, the display automatically turns off. Also, the handset is going to have two antennas, two speakers, and two microphones, which are all place under the screen towards the top and bottom. Regarding the camera, it appears LG may eventually combine it within the display in the hope of creating a truly bezel-less design.
