The rival of Snapdragon 845 is going to debut soon with the name Hisilicon Kirin 980! This new chipset is considered to have a very strong performance. Keep reading for more details!

Hisilicon Kirin 980 chipset to be powered by TSMC’s 7nm tech

For starter, Huawei is going to debut this alleged chipset with the Mate line in 2018. While it is still some time for the line to be renewed, we have some exciting info about the Kirin 980 chip – the latest heir to the Kirin 970. On a side note, the Kirin 970 chip powers last year’s Huawei Mate phone and this year’s Mate P20 are based on TSMC’s 10nm processor. Just last month, the Huawei Mate 20 handset revealed the performance of the company’s Hisilicon Kirin 980 processor.

It also suggested that this chip would be better than the latest Snapdragon 845. And now, we have close-up details regarding the Kirin 980. According to a report :“The upcoming Kirin 980 chips will adopt Cambricon’s processor IP. Cambricon’s recently-unveiled 1M series is the company’s new-generation AI chip designed using TSMC’s 7nm technology”. Earlier, rumours brought out that Samsung was the supposed one to produce these alleged 7nm chips.

But now let’s move on to the present. Thanks to the improved manufacturing process, we expect the Kirin 980 to be not only more powerful but considerably more practical than its predecessor – the Kirin 970 – which is currently powering the Huawei P20, P20 Pro and Huawei Honor 10.

Hisilicon Kirin 980 chipset availability

These 7nm FinFet-based processors will be ready by the second half of this year. That is also when the Huawei Mate smartphone line gets renewed annually. We also hope that the new chips will get installed in the Huawei Mate 10 successor. As for the power and prowess of the new transistors, not much is known. Stay tuned as it is too early for anything to be said.
