WHY HUAWEI WANTS TO EXIT THE US MARKET

Quick backup story: There has been a long struggle between this Chinese giant and the US government. For long, Huawei has tried to penetrate the market, but the government has always opposed its attempts. Now, reports infer that the US is no longer part of Huawei’s global strategy. The reduction comes amid repeated calls by the US officials to ban products from Huawei and ZTE. In a nutshell, they considered these Chinese firms to be a risk to national security.

In addition, Huawei’s consumer business group, which includes smartphones, tablets, laptops, and wearables, is already shut down. The reason is due to the decision not to sell the company latest P20 flagship phone in the US; as well as the losing on distribution deals with AT&T and Best Buy. Therefore, after all of that event combined, Huawei will quickly reduce the scale of US operations (sales, marketing and support).

To sum up, we expect that the company will completely withdraw from the US market by the end of this year. In response to this report, Huawei reps state that on the development of the US market, nothing is really out of line. Their response to the reports does not give a definite statement, but the company certainly did not deny the news either. According to Richard Yu – CEO of Huawei’s Consumer Business Group – said at the launch of the P20 last month: “Even without the U.S. market, we’ll be number 1 in the world”. In conclusion, we can guess that Huawei is likely to bid farewell to the United States soon.

Huawei confirms that other launching plan prior to this event will not be affected

However, Huawei confirmed that “CBG will be launching its latest MediaPad Android tablet and the Matebook X Pro Windows laptop in the coming weeks. And we continue to have strong channel partners such as Amazon, Microsoft, and Walmart.”
