HTC has teased users for a while with the new U Ultra. Now, the HTC U Ultra launch will be next week. However, it comes with quite a steep price!
HTC U Ultra launch is next week, with steep price!
Previously, HTC has promised us the U Ultra with sapphire glass coming with the launch, especially for the 128GB version. That model will make its appearance in Taiwan first, on March 28, which is next week. However, the main talking point about the new phone is the price, and it certainly stings for a lot of people. The 64GB version with regular Gorilla Glass 5 costs NTD 23,900 (~Rs. 51,478), while the 128GB with sapphire glass version goes up to NTD 28,900 (~Rs. 62,247)!
Obviously, we can see that the price difference is really huge, the equivalent of over $100. This is even higher than the upgrade cost of going from 64GB to 128GB. Sure, sapphire glass is expensive and hard to manufacture, and that huge leap in cost may justify this fact. However, the HTC U Ultra is hardly an affordable handset to start with. The high difference in price may turn off a lot of potential customers.
Not counting the sapphire glass, HTC U Ultra specs is quite good. It houses a quad-core SND 821 processor (2×2.15 GHz Kryo & 2×1.6 GHz Kryo) at its heart, along with 4GB RAM. There are options of 64 or 128GB ROM, extendable by up to 256GB. The battery capacity is 3,000mAh. The main camera is 12MP, and the selfie shooter is even better, at 16MP. The U Ultra has a 5.7″ 2K display, and will run Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box.
HTC U Ultra launch is coming very soon!
The HTC U Ultra launch is almost upon us. We do not know for now whether the 128GB sapphire version will go to other markets yet. The normal 64GB version is already on sale in US and Europe. Despite the HTC U Ultra price, this is still a nice phone to have.
