HTC Marlin: The next Google flagship

We all know that this time, Google has decided to work with HTC to produce the next Google flagship. However, this year’s Google phone will not come with the name “Nexus” because the Google wants the next product to be more “opinionated”. In stead, this phone could be named Google Pixel XL or HTC Marlin. In this article, this handset will be called HTC Marlin.

Back to HTC Marlin specs, the previous leaks of this phone on Antutu benchmark has shown that there will be a Snapdragon 820 chipset and a 4GB RAM at the heart of the device.  Now, the information revealed on Geekbench also displays the same. So it’s almost confirmed that this handset will house a combination of 4GB RAM and Snapdragon 820!

Just with this detail, we already know that HTC Marlin will be a tough competitor in the smartphone market. The combo of Snapdragon 820 and 4GB RAM is available in many leading flagships such as Samsung Galaxy S7/S7 Edge, Samsung Galaxy Note 7, HTC 10, LG G5, etc. So what will make Marlin different from other flagships? It’s the OS!

HTC Marlin: Android 7 Nougat!

According to the information from Geekbench, the OS of HTC Marlin is coded as Android NMR1, which can be easily inferred to the latest OS of Android: Android 7 Nougat. This is not surprising actually, as the previous OS version of Android were first released in Google products (the Nexus series). However, this time, Marlin is the second one to receive the latest Android OS. The first is LG’s upcoming flagship: V20. Besides the details about the CPU and the OS, there are also hints that the selfie shooter of this Google phone will come with Sony camera sensor. There is nothing new about other specs.
