HP Stream Windows 8.1 – Chromebook’s rival?

HP Stream Windows 8.1 is launched as rival to Chromebook

As Windows 8.1 is the latest version of Windows operating system, a lot laptops and notebooks being released have this OS installed.

HP Stream Windows 8.1 is one. With its configuration and features the laptop offers, would it beat other already popular low-end laptops such as Google Chromebook?

Hardware Configuration

HP Stream Windows 8.1 has a AMD A4 Micro-6400T 1.0GHz or 1.6GHz Quad Core Processor, a Radeon R3 as the GPU, and a RAM of 2GB running on the system of Windows 8.1. Having a 14’’ display, this laptop can be considered one of the best out there with its configuration.

Moreover, you can also have an account of more than 100GB free cloud storage on OneDrive for you to store and access your data anywhere.

Additionally, HP Stream with Windows 8.1 can enable users to work with Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Excel and Powerpoint, which are already popular and familiar to us.

The laptop runs with a battery capacity of 2960mAH, and you may want to connect it with a power socket to continuously use.

The HP Stream has a good quality audio system with Beats Audio and four speakers to produce sound. It also has a HD camera that atcs as a webcam, which is great for video calling on Skype. The laptop is also equipped with a multi touch trackpad and enables Windows 8.1 trackpad gestures.

Some minor drawbacks

One of the problems with this device is the display. Though it runs on Windows 8.1, it does not have a touch screen. We all know Windows 8.1 can only perform at its fullest on a touch screen device. This version of HP Stream can not afford to be equipped with one due to the low price.

Another disadvantage is that the HP Stream only has 32GB or 64GB of internal storage on the solid state drive. For extension of data usage, you will have to have an SD card or an external hard drive. The use of SSD instead of a usual hard drive has its pros though, such as improving the laptop’s performance.

HP announces that there will be an enhanced version with HD quality.
