HMD Global funding reaches $1 billion, ensures more new Nokia phones!
Today, we came across the press release of HMD Global. Based on the report, the Finnish brand has raised a total of $100 million in a funding round at a valuation of the cool billion dollars. In details, the sum of money came from various investors led by Ginko Ventures. Moreover, HMD Global funding is going to be used for “strategic investments”, particularly expanding their Nokia-branded phones series.
“We are thrilled to have these investors join us in our journey to script the next chapter of Nokia phones. It is our ambition to deliver great smartphones that delight our fans while staying true to our Finnish roots and the hallmarks that the Nokia brand has always been known for. We aim to be among the top smartphone players globally, and our success to date gives us the confidence to further continue on a growth path in 2018 and beyond,” said Florian Seiche, CEO, HMD Global.
HMD Global was founded on December 1, 2016. In 201, the Finnish-based company announced their revenues of $2.13 billion (and a small operating loss of $77 million). Furthermore, they sell their Nokia phones in 80 countries but sees them used in 170 countries. Recently, HMD Global has finally unveiled the first Nokia phone from their X series. The Nokia X6 is the first Nokia device to sport a notch-screen and features some great specs like 6GB RAM, Dual camera, and the latest Android 8.0 Oreo. What will HMD Global funding bring for us in 2018?
While most Nokia smartphones belong to the low-end or mid-range segment, we haven’t yet to meet a Nokia flagship. With the large funding, there is a high chance that at least one Nokia premium phone can hit the market within the year. Which handsets do you want HMD Global to introduce the most?
