Hachiko: the world’s most loyal dog!
For those who have a pet dog at home, we can all agree that one of the happiest moments for us is seeing them at the door every time we come home. We realize that no matter what happened in the outside world, you have someone back at home who adore you and look forward to your return. Furthermore, our beloved dog would always be there for us, no matter how long you make them stay; or how late you would be back.
Our story today is one of the most touching proofs of this. Meet Hachikō, the lovely Akita that keeps on waiting for his owner to come home; not knowing he had died unexpectedly at work and would never return. His owner was Hidesaburo Ueno, a professor at Tokyo University. After many try to search for a loyal companion, he managed to adopt Hachiko; a purebred Akita dog he found in Odate, a city in the Akita prefecture. That’s where a beautiful friendship formed.
Every morning, Hachiko would accompany his owner on his long walk towards the Shibuya Train Station, in central Tokyo. Then in the afternoon, he went to the station and greet Hidesaburo on his way back. Their custom went on for nearly two years until his master didn’t show up in the return train one day. In the middle of a lecture at the university, Hidesaburo passed away suddenly from a cerebral hemorrhage. After that, Hidesaburo’s widowed wife put Hachiko in the former gardener care. However, what Hachiki did after was a big surprise. Throughout his remaining 10 years, Hachikō continued to show up at the train station every morning and afternoon; precisely at the same place and the same time when the train was about to enter the station; waiting for his beloved friend to return, which sadly never happened.
The story untold
During this time, a journalist and Hidesaburo’s former student decided to follow the sad dog to his home after seeing him every single day at the station. There, he met and heard the story from the dog’s new owner. From that day on, the story of Hachiko and his loyalty was shared with the public, and eventually the world.
