GTA growth continues impressively!
Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of Rockstar Games and 2K Games, has released its earnings report for he fiscal Q2/2017 (ending September 30). From this report, we can have good look at how business is going for the company. The most notable highlight is that GTA V as sold 70 million copies, compared to last quarter’s 65 million. GTA Online also continues to grow at a nice pace. Additionally, Mafia III has shipped 4.5 million copies in its first week of launch, while NBA 2K17 has sold 4.5 million copies since its September launch. The Civilization series also have seen an increase in total shipments, from 35 million to 37 million!
The net revenue has grown 21 percent from $347 million last year to $420.2 million. NBA 2K17, GTA V, GTA Online were among the leading contributors. As for digital sources, growth can be seen as well. Virtual currency, DLCs, and online game revenue (which is called “recurrent consumer spending”)takes up 31 percent of total revenue, and 56 percent of digital revenue. Once again, NBA 2K17, GTA V and GTA online are the leading drivers for growth in this area.
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said in a statement that GTA Online has grown steadily. This month last year, there were 8 million players a week. That figure has not yet been revealed for this year, although with how positive it has been going, we can speculate that it has increased. This is because new contents have been consistently offered to players, like the recent Halloween event. Also, the publisher has always tried to keep the integrity of the game, like purging cheaters in a recent policy update. That makes the game more enjoyable to play for gamers.
