GOOD NEWS: Google maps now includes Food Review in the latest update!
A new version of Google Maps came rolling out last night. It doesn’t appear to have any significant changes, but we are interested in the new Food review feature. Let’s take a look!
A new adjustment to the Food Review feature on Google maps
Google has been steadily expanding Google Maps features over the last few years to include as much information about businesses as possible. The tech giant also wants to be the go-to place for restaurant reviews resource. But there’s one little problem. For that to happen, people have to write those reviews. So, to encourage people to leave reviews on Google Maps instead of Yelp or Facebook; Google recently announced they’d be incentivising on the Local Guides program.
After users sign up, they can earn points “by writing reviews, uploading photos, adding new places, fixing outdated information, and answering simple questions.” Google Maps sends notifications to users, prompting them to rate places they’ve visited. When the food review system goes live, they may be asked to evaluate individual dishes when visiting restaurants. The system will consider a few factors, such as pricing, quantity, quality, and will ask whether they’d recommend the recipe or not.
Evidence of the feature was first discovered back in January. However, changes to the code in the latest APK suggest that it’s going to be a bit more involved than initially suspected. Basically, users will be able to give their thoughts about almost anything that a business might offer. It can be food, a service, or something else off the shelf. Plus, you’ll be able to add photos of your choice. So extra yet so brilliant!
The bottom line of Google maps Food review
What’s more interesting, is that this is likely just a part of a much bigger picture. Google’s ultimate plan is maybe to let users leave recommendations and reviews for any product or service that a business might offer, not just restaurants. And if you use Google Maps enough, you can actually get invited to Google. What a lifetime opportunity right!
