Previously, Ubisoft already uses Amazon’s AWS to host multiplayer games, so Amazon is not exactly a new player in the world of online gaming. Based on the latest updates, Amazon has announced the launch of its service called GameOn. As far as it concerns, the announcement takes place at Amazon Developer Day at GDC 2018. In details, “GameOn” service adds esports-like competitions for multiple platforms including mobile, PC, and console games.
Besides, GameOn is built on Amazon Web Services, based on Amazon’s cloud infrastructure, which will work on any operating systems. In details, this service allows the developers to scale quickly and ensure ease of releasing their game on multiple platforms. Furthermore, the GameOn API helps to add competitive and prize-based play to a game. Whereas, the prize will be fulfilled by Amazon and only active in the US as of now.
The good news is that Amazon has been working on expanding its presence in the gaming world. According to Marja Koopmans, director of Amazon Competitive Gaming, GameOn service is one of the ways to increase player engagement and retention. Besides, Amazon GameOn supports to give developers simple, yet powerful tools to foster community through competitive gameplay. For now, GameOn now supports Super Bheem Clash with more dynamic competition and drive engagement with players.
GameOn release date and subscription packs
From now, developers can use GameOn APIs for free until May 1, 2018. Since then, there would be a free tier for the first six months of usage. And developers will pay $0.003 per play afterward.
