Nintendo will soon launch its latest console, Switch, in March. There have been a lot of games confirmed for this device. However, there is one particular game that is bigger than the size of Nintendo Switch memory!
A game is already bigger than Nintendo Switch memory
The Nintendo Switch has been said to cost about $300. That includes all types of gadgets inside the box. However, today is the right day to remember that there is not a microSD card included in the package, which you are going to need if you want to buy your game digitally in 2017. Nintendo has recently released the storage requirement of some of the launch game titles, and one of them, Dragon Quest Heroes, will require 32GB, more than the available Switch memory (32GB minus system files storage). That is huge compared to Zelda Breath of the Wild (13.4GB), Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (7GB), or Disgaea (5.9GB). Note that those are the downloadable sizes of the games, not the cartridge version.
The microSD card is not new, as Nintendo has already talked about this topic before. The company has shared before that the Nintendo Switch will have 32GB of storage, and some will be reserved for system files. Internal storage can be expanded via a microSDXC card of up to 2TB. External USB drives are not supported at launch, but the company promised to expand that option in future updates. The save files will be in the internal memory, while the data that can be redownloaded will be stored in the microSDXC card.
However, that was before we know of the memory requirement of the games. Initially, an external memory seems more of a luxury to players. Now that the information is available, a microSDXC card seems more like a necessity with the Switch, since players will be likely to have 2-4 games to play. So, as a reminder, if you plan to buy the new Nintendo device at launch, prepare some extra cash for a sufficient external Switch memory card.
Switch memory: Will it be a problem?
The Nintendo Switch will launch next week, at the start of March. Hopefully the Switch memory will not cause big problems for users. Are you excited for the device?
